IssyGrid, the first district smart grid in France, will be built in the Seine Ouest business district in Issy-les-Moulineaux with the goal of enabling energy optimization at the neighborhood level. In response to an increasingly tight and complex energy market, IssyGrid offers a local response to global environmental challenges.

The smart grid will be gradually extended from its initial base in the Seine Ouest district to the entire city of Issy-les-Moulineaux. IssyGrid will cover the needs of nearly 10,000 people in a 160,000 square-meter area. Very quickly, nearby residential buildings will be included as well.

The smart grid will be developed in an open-ended manner over a period of five years. It will be supplied by a diverse range of energy sources adapted to different uses and will be supported by an information program designed to achieve maximum buy-in among users and other partners.

The deployment process will take place in three stages:
1. Energy consumption will be measured for all types of use, in offices, homes, stores, public lighting and electric vehicle recharging stations.
2. Solar panels, cogeneration units and other energy production resources will be installed, along with batteries, flywheels and other energy storage devices.
3. The production, consumption and storage systems will be mutualized and managed as a whole to define avenues for energy optimization.

The initial results will be presented before the end of 2011.
